What is Object Tracking ?
Before we discuss about object Tracking , First observe the image below which is from Game of Thrones.
Object Tacking is a method in which we replace an object in our video footage by a 3d character or 3D model in postproduction. As shown in above image the object in video (green colored with tracking markers)is later replaced by a dragon in post using object tracking Method.
How Object Tracking is performed in VFX ?
1. Using Several tracking softwares the track marker on object as the red markers on above images are tracked. the motion of the markers is tracked using the software .
2.Then this tracked data is exported to a 3D software and a 3D model is linked to these tracked points and so now the 3D model moves same as the object in video is moving .
3. If We have to put the object the 3D object beneath something in video as in above image the dragon is beneath the hands then the model is linked and the handed are roto and added above the model.(If you want to know more about roto click here: Roto)
